Here you will find software installation information for COCIS classes. All of the software you will be asked to use is open source and free to use.

CS 112: Intro to Programming

For this course, you will need to have Python 3 downloaded to your personal computer. For Mac users, find the instructions for that here. For Windows users, find the instructions for that here.

Each student will also need to have Visual Studio (VS) Code installed on their personal computer. You can find the download information here. To find all documentation regarding VS Code visit their Docs page here.

CS 232: Data Structures

STAT 118: Intro to Statistics

  • Install R language to personal computer
  • Download RStudio Desktop to your personal computer. (For those unable to download RStudio Desktop, you will use RStudio Server which is accessed through your internet browser.)

Notes:

Before you download RStudio, you will need to install the language of “R” onto your personal computer.

Each student is encouraged to download RStudio Desktop (Open Source Edition) to their personal computers. This version allows more options within the software. If you are unable to download RStudio Desktop to your computer, you will be using RStudio Server which is accessed via a web browser (Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.).

CS 110: Foundations of Information Technology

Each student will be made accounts on two web servers maintained by Simmons for this course. Cleo is the web server (web.simmons.edu) where you will be uploading files and web pages during this course. Students will use Leah to work on command line commands and regular expressions.

You will be using Atom as your text editor for your code in this class. To download Atom, visit here. All you will need to do is download the file to your computer and run it through. Check out this helpful Youtube video for an introduction to Atom as a text editor.

MATH 210: Discrete Mathematics
