MSW with School Social Worker/ School Adjustment Counselor: The MSW with School Licensure/School Adjustment Counselor (MSW-SSW/SAC) was started in 2014 through a collaboration between the School of Social Work and The Simmons Special Education Faculty. Candidates are prepared for a career in school-based social work and for the School Social Work/Adjustment counselor license under the auspices of the commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Early and Secondary Education.
SSW/SAC is a 70-credit degree that prepares clinical social workers to work with children, adolescents and their families in schools and other youth serving settings. MSW students enrolled in the MSW-SSW/SAC are eligible for endorsement for the Massachusetts School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor Initial License.
To earn the endorsement a licensure candidate must successfully complete all MSW-SSW/SAC requirements; this includes: 1) all required and elective course work; 2) two practicum placements, one in a school setting and one in a placement serving children and families; 3) submission of 4 hourly practicum logs; 4) earning a passing score on the MTEL by the end of first year; 5) creating a DESE ELAR profile; 6) submitting a DESE practicum form for each placement.
