The primary reasons to store your work on the file server are:
For questions about using the file servers, review the available Instructions and FAQs or contact the Service Desk.
The Department Folder (O:) is only available to faculty and staff. In it, you will find an entry for each department at Simmons. Departments can use their folder to store files that are shared among the members of a department.
Reasons to use your Department Drive:
If your department has student workers, they can be granted access to the department’s drive for the time that they are working with your department.
For additional questions about using the file servers, contact the Service Desk.
Each user of the Simmons University network has access to his or her own personal folder on the file server. This is your own personal space on the Simmons file server, and you are the only person who has access to this it.
The Technology department backs up the contents of the file server regularly to ensure that your data is always secure and available.
For Faculty and Staff: Do not save any files on your Desktop or in “My Documents.” Instead, save all of your files in your file server folder. How Faculty and Staff connect to their Y: drive.
For Students: Save your important work and files that you will use at multiple computers in your personal folder. How Students connect to their Y: drive.
