The placement process for the specialist/advanced practicum year begins in the late fall/early winter of the student’s generalist/foundation year of practicum. For Advanced Standing students, this process begins after a tuition deposit is paid.
- Students submit a placement intake form and a current resume to the Practicum Education Department.
- After receipt of the materials, the student schedules a placement meeting with the Practicum Faculty.
- Following that meeting, students either submit applications to agencies directly (Independent Application Agency path) or the students begin the Practicum Education Department application process (Traditional Placement path).
- If selected, the student interviews with the agency.
- If both parties approve of the arrangement, Simmons finalizes the placement.
- If the match seems unpromising, another agency is identified and the process begins again.
