My Simmons

Academics

SLIS West supports the Master of Science in Library and Information Science, as well as concentrations in Archives Management and School Library Teacher. Students meet the requirements of the MS degree by completing face-to-face, blended, and online courses. All courses required of all students and a diversity of elective courses are offered on site at SLIS West; however, specialized elective courses may only be available to SLIS West students online or at the Boston Campus.

Academic Support

SLIS West students are assigned advisors located at the SLIS West Campus. In addition Academic support is available for SLIS West students with a variety of academic needs through the Student Support which offers academic advising and support online to SLIS West students.

Student Support can:

  • connect students with the Writing Center where students can submit papers for review online
  • offer help to students learning English as a Second Language
  • accommodate students with disabilities

SLIS West students looking for a subject tutor for a specific course should contact the SLIS West Program Manager for accommodation.

Course Schedules

Visit Course Schedules for information on SLIS West and Boston courses.

SLIS West usually offers around 25 courses per academic year. All core courses are offered at least twice per year and we strive to offer a balanced number of courses across the curriculum that provide a solid foundation in LIS and Archives to allow students to complete their degree on the SLIS West campus. However, not all specialized courses, concentration requirements and electives are available at SLIS West. When considering courses students are encouraged to consider all available courses, including those offered in Boston and online, to fulfill their degree requirements.

Students are required to take LIS 407 and LIS 415 within their first 12 credits. Students are encouraged to take the Technology course requirement within the first 12 credits as well.

Please contact your advisor or Eric Poulin if you have specific questions about SLIS West courses.
