Tech Lab

The Tech Lab is the center of COCIS Technology services for students, faculty and staff. Students have access to all of the technology, software applications, server-based services, and equipment required for their course work. Usage Guidelines

Food or drink in the Lab

Please be considerate when bringing food and drinks into the SLIS Tech Lab. Drinks should be in a sealed mug or container. Spilled drinks ruin equipment and cataloging resources that cannot be replaced. Greasy food creates dirty work areas and keyboards while crumbs attract the building’s resident mice to the lab area. The staff is responsible for cleaning and vacuuming the lab. Please help us keep the lab clean and use the student lounge for meals and drinks.

Cell Phones, Conversations, and Music

Please take ALL cell phones conversations out into the hallway or to the lounge and keep conversations to a low volume. Calls, conversations, and music are very distracting to the students working around you. Headphones are also available to check out at the Technology Reference Assistant desk for your use in the lab.

Alumnae/i

What happens to my email?

Simmons email accounts will be deactivated 90 days after graduation. Please back up any important email before you graduate and sign up for free email forwarding to avoid missing any messages after your account is removed.

You may also want to consider setting an auto-reply notification email to let senders know your address will be changing. You can also import your Simmons Gmail into a personal Gmail account.

What happens to my web pages on the Simmons server?

Network accounts are also deactivated 90 days after graduation. We recommend downloading all files hosted on your Simmons server space before leaving. Websites are not archived by the College. If you need help with this process, please contact the Tech Lab.

Can I use the Tech Lab after I graduate?

As an alum of the program, you are welcome to use the lab and its services with the exception of checking out media equipment. You must have a valid alumni ID, which can be requested from the Office of Alumnae/i Engagement.
