Wellness & Work/Life Balance

Our health is what we make of it – give it attention and it improves, give it none and it subsides.” – John F. Demartini

Simmons University is committed to the health and well-being of faculty and staff. As you know, wellness not only helps at a personal level by improving health and well-being, it also can help the College save on future health care costs. The everyday choices we make like having our annual physical, quitting smoking and taking the stairs can make a big difference.

Simmons University offers smoking cessation services to students, faculty, and staff. Students may visit the health center to receive important cessation information and access to smoking cessation products. Faculty and staff who are eligible for benefits have access to a number of resources via Talent and Human Capital Strategy and the medical plan provider such as:

  • Employee members in the BCBSMA medical plan can participate in a telephonic Lifestyle Coaching (tobacco cessation coaching) Program that is staffed by experienced health educators (such as nurses) who are certified in wellness and tobacco cessation coaching. In addition, employee members who take a Health Assessment wherein tobacco is flagged as health risk factor, can avail of a four week tobacco cessation workshop on BCBSMA’s site.
  • Smoking Cessation products available over the counter will be processed under our employee medical plan’s prescription drug benefit if a prescription is obtained from the physician and presented the pharmacy.
  • Effective July 1, 2014, Simmons’s PPO medical plan members do not have to pay for Tier 1 and 2 smoking cessation drugs and/or aids purchased from a covered retail pharmacy.
  • In addition, our Employee Assistance Program through AllOne Health (www.allonehealtheap.com) offers online and telephonic resources to help with smoking cessation.
