Introducing the Division of Student Engagement, Success, and Diversity: A Message to Parents and Families

July 18, 2023

Dear Parents and Families,

I hope you are having a wonderful summer. It’s hard to believe that we are already halfway through July!

We’ve had some exciting changes over the summer: The Division of Student Affairs and the Center for Student Success have merged to create the Division of Student Engagement, Success, and Diversity. This new division connects students to the following offices:

  • Accessibility Services
  • Academic Support & Tutoring
  • Athletics and Recreation
  • Career Education Center
  • Center for Global Education
  • Counseling Center
  • Health and Wellness Center
  • Jennifer Eckert Center for Leadership and Engagement
  • Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (includes the Multicultural Center and Spiritual Life)
  • REEF Support Center for Commuter Students
  • Research and Fellowships
  • Residence Life
  • Stephen J. London Center for Community Engagement and Social Justice

Our teams are now working together even more closely to ensure that students have access to the activities, resources, and support networks that will enable them to thrive at Simmons and beyond.

In addition, the Division will be hosting virtual Q&A sessions for parents and families twice per month, starting Tuesday, September 5. Please register in advance and submit any questions or topics that you’d like us to cover!

Here are a few updates your students can expect over the next few weeks:

  • Introduction to the offices in the Division — who we are, what we provide, how to get in touch;
  • On-campus work-study and non-work study employment;
  • Enhanced services to support health and wellbeing;
  • Launch of the Simmons Engage web + mobile app: an all-in-one CampusGroups platform connecting students with events, organizations, and activities on campus and online;
  • Updated bias response protocol and opportunities to engage in social justice education;
  • Updated, user-friendly website enabling students to locate and access services around campus and online;
  • Regular issues of The Anchor, which will be posted on our website.

In addition, please keep an eye out for the full schedule of Welcome Back events, which will be shared with parents and families during the first week of September.

As always, we welcome your ideas and suggestions for topics to cover in future issues of The Anchor. Please reach out to [email protected] with questions or feedback.

Sincerely,

The Student Engagement, Success and Diversity Team
