Civic Engagement Scorecard

The Civic Engagement Scorecard is a toolkit designed to help you become civically engaged at Simmons University and beyond!

With over 60 possibilities of civic actions, you can start by volunteering in the community, registering to vote, or going to the public library. We aim to create long-term and expansive opportunities for students not formally engaged in the London Center’s official programs. Additionally, we hope to help students understand and think critically about the context in which they are engaging.

Civic Engagement Scorecard participants will be recognized with awards at our annual London Center award ceremony.

Using the Scorecard is fun, easy, and empowering!

Center for Information Literacy

Information is Power: The First Amendment, Public Records, and the Press. Freedom of the press, access to public records, and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) are the tools that keep governments accountable and democracy strong. But those rights only matter if we actually use them.

In an age where access to information is increasingly challenged—and sometimes outright attacked—how can students, journalists, and everyday citizens step up to protect and exercise these freedoms?

Join us for an interactive mini-conference that shows you how to use the First Amendment and FOIA to uncover the truth, hold power accountable, and protect your future, led by experts who fight these battles every day.

Monday, October 27, 12- 3 pm

  • 12–1 PM | The First Amendment, Decoded
  • 1–2 PM | Hacking Transparency: FOIA in Action
  • 2–3 PM | Ask the Experts: Information Law, Press Cases, and You

You’re Invited: Take Back The Night!

  • Betsy’s Friends is hosting our annual Take Back The Night on October 14th at 6-8pm on the Residential Quad! Beginning in the early 80s with international protests, marches, and events around the world, TBTN focused on building awareness and community for survivors of multiple forms of gender-based violence. You do not have to identify as a survivor to attend, and are encouraged to bring others!

  • Contribute your story to our survivor speak-out! Our goal is to create a space that centers choice, authentic voices, and validation for everyone who participates. We'll hold a candle-lit vigil to honor survivors from the past, present, and future, as well as a survivor speak-out. You can contribute a survivor story here in any form that feels right to you.
