International Students

This guide is designed for students preparing to move to Boston and those who have recently arrived, and is intended to help ease the transition of moving to the United States. For information specific to academics, courses, and registration, visit the pages for Incoming students.

All incoming students must complete the Virtual Orientation and are encouraged to attend the Introduction to Simmons SLIS in Boston before classes begin. The Boston Welcome Day website is updated with new information each semester, so be sure to check it close to the time you will be starting the program. International students are encouraged to participate in events hosted by the Student Chapter of the International Relations Round Table (SCIRRT) and other student organizations.

A note about your application: You are not required to submit financial documentation before you are considered for admission to the program. Once you are admitted, we will send you a Declaration of Finances form, where you will indicate the source of funds you will use to meet your living and tuition expenses. We cannot send registration information to you nor issue the I-20 student visa application until you have sent us the Declaration of Finances form. Visit the application page for your particular program and click on "International Students" for more information.

If you have any questions that aren't answered here, please contact Assistant Dean Knowles, or the faculty member who serves as the academic advisor to international students, Associate Professor Lisa Hussey.
