  • The student office, reserved solely for the use of doctoral students, is located in P-310K of the Palace Road building. It makes available two computers and a variety of reference books.

2018 News

Teresa Nelson, Bedour Alshakhs, Michele Cloonan, Toby Pearlstein, Naresh AgarwalPhD Candidate Bedour Alshakhs successfully defended her dissertation in December 2018. Bedour's dissertation research investigates the information seeking behavior of family-owned businesses in the food industry. In-depth interviews with ten family business organizations were conducted, and the results show the need for information transfer. PhD Student Alyson Gamble participated in a panel, "Digital Liaisons: Connecting Diverse Voices to Support an Ethical and Sustainable Information Future in Digital Libraries" at the 81st Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) 2018 Annual Meeting in Vancouver, Canada, November 10-14. Gamble was also interviewed about her research with Assistant Professor Colin Rhinesmith for the SLIS News page.

SLIS PhD graduates Sarah Al Mahmoud, Shabnam Shahvar, and Monique le Conge Ziesenhenne were hooded at the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony on May 19, 2018. Shabnam Shahvar was chosen as this year's student speaker. Zach Newell, SLIS doctoral student, was named Dean of Library Services at Eastern Illinois University on April 23, 2018.

SLIS Doctoral Student Sarah Al-Mahmoud won 2nd place in the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) doctoral student poster competition on February 9, 2018 in Denver, Colorado (pictured at left with Director of the SLIS PhD program/Assoc.
